internationally touring
jazz vocalist, tap dancer, and bandleader based in Tokyo

who has been performing for over 15 years across Europe, Asia, and North America, from major international festivals to intimate jazz clubs.

He brings a rare combination of artistry: a voice rooted in the jazz and blues vernacular, and tap dance as a rhythm instrument in direct conversation with the music; taking audiences into a world where sound is physical and spontaneous.

LIVE SHOWS

For more than a decade and a half, THOMAS has been a travelling voice in the global jazz community — a vocalist, tap dancer, and bandleader whose work bridges continents, traditions, and generations.

Born in Australia and now based in Tokyo, his musical path began early: performing with local Melbourne jazz greats at thirteen, and busking on the streets to save money for trips to the United States to study with master tap dancers.

Those early studies eventually led him to Austin, where he joined Tapestry Dance Company, touring through North America and China. From there, the road widened: tours across Europe, where he deepened his musical education and began leading his own jazz ensembles; time in West Africa studying traditional music and dance; and years of interdisciplinary collaboration across Asia and Europe. Much of his life has been lived in motion, and those experiences shape the sound and spirit of his performances.

Performance credits include:

The Long Center in Austin, Texas;
Falls Festival Australia;
Place des Arts, Montreal;
Spirit de Milan, Italy;
Södra Teatern in Stockholm;
Brixton House London;
Teatro San Pol Madrid;
Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane;
Iðnó Theatre, Reykjavik Iceland;
Tsaritsyno Palace in Moscow;
the Shanghai International Arts Festival;
Fall For Dance North (Toronto, Canada)
in the electronic/jazz music collaboration The Mars Project with Travis Knights;
stages in Taiwan, Singapore, Bangkok, Athens, Montpellier

Across these stages, Thomas has continued to develop a distinctive artistic language: a voice rooted in jazz and blues vernacular, tap dance used as a rhythm instrument, and an improvisational approach shaped by years of collaboration around the world. His work integrates original compositions with spontaneous musical dialogue, bringing together the sensibilities of both vocalist and percussionist.

Now living in Tokyo, Thomas continues to evolve as a vocalist, tap dancer, bandleader, and composer, creating new works and collaborations. His music reflects a life spent listening and learning from the movements of different places and people.

I didn't know tap dancing could be that.
It's as if he were saying something mysterious and beautiful with every step.
